The most important part of your triathlon training schedule will happen in the planning phase. It is important that your plan is well thought out and the time table is well defined for your training schedule to work well.
Those who are training for a triathlon must begin their training schedule for a year or so in advance of the race. It is always better to get started on the training a little early than too late. People who are training for triathlon events must become accustomed to the training schedules years in advance and be prepared to live according to the difficult lifestyle.
A triathlon is a test of your endurance for the most part and that is the reason that the training schedule must start years before the actual race. There are three events in a triathlon that will each test your endurance and that means that you have three times as much training to accomplish as a competitor in any other type of event.
Your training will have to include the physical exercise as well as mental skills to get through a triathlon. The positive attitude that you use during a triathlon will help you a great deal. When you are nearing the end of a triathlon, your muscles will be beginning to give out and you will need a positive attitude to help you complete the race. The triathlon training schedule should spend some time on the positive attitude that you will need to get through the race.
In the final days of your triathlon training schedule, you will be focused on preparing for the race in a more intense way. As the days tick by and the race gets even closer, resting your muscles and preparing for the day becomes more and more important. The final day before the race should include some rest that will prepare you for the test of endurance the next day. Not enough emphasis is placed on sleep and rest before this type of race.
Working with a professional trainer will help you to make sure that your triathlon training schedule is kept on track for the days before the big event. A professional understands the kind of work that you will need to do to prepare for this endurance test. You should make sure that you do your own research and reading about triathlon training so that you are fully prepared for the kind of work that must be accomplished.
Set down the timetable carefully in the beginning stages of your triathlon training schedule. These events are difficult and you will need a rigid training schedule to prepare you for the race. There is no other greater test of endurance than a triathlon which means that your training schedule is more important than ever. Work with your trainer to develop the triathlon training schedule that will get you in the best possible shape, prepare you mentally for the race and help you rise to the top of the pack on race day.

As more people discover the triathlon, there is more pressure to create easier competitions. One of the events which are becoming more common is the beginner triathlon. Quite often this is an event which is held at the same time as other more intense races. This creates unique opportunities which were not previously available. It is great whether you are just getting started yourself or if you have people in your life which you are trying to get into triathlons. You can be competitor or spectator depending on what is right for you.
Who Puts on Triathlons
The beginner triathlon is held by different organizations. If you are looking for one to get involved in, you can often find it online as well as through bike shops, gyms and athletic suppliers. These events will often be supported by local businesses as well as through the major athletic businesses. You will be able to find competitions for all skill levels if you only know the right places to look. You may also want to simply ask other people you know who have competed in triathlons in the past as to where they found out about the triathlon.
A Triathlon for the Entire Family
Often the beginner triathlon which is right for you is one which will include the entire family. This way you can either enter into an experience level or an age group. This way you will not be judged based upon your ability to compete with those who are highly skilled in triathlons. These events are quite often more about fun than they are about the actual competition. This will help you to get one under your belt before you start training for a real event.
Charitable Events
Charities will often hold triathlons to raise money. To get as many people to enroll and donate money as possible, they will have all skill levels available. The beginner triathlon at these events is a very low stress environment. Once again, it is really more about having fun than it is actually about the competition. There is no better way for you to cut your teeth in the world of the triathlon than by competing in an event where the proceeds are going to a good cause. You will get experience while doing something to help out others.
Training for the Triathlon
No matter if you are competing in a beginner triathlon or a more intense one, you need the right training. This will allow you make it through the triathlon without succumbing to injury. This is important to make sure your first triathlon will not be your last. Make sure you devote the right amount of time to training in all of the different sections of the triathlon. For most people the swimming section of the triathlon is the part which they need to train the most for. This is because swimming is not something many people do just for exercise. Follow a good training guide to make sure you can gain experience without injury.

Madison - Named after Madison Square Garden, which was the home of the original six day races. Madisons are team races that can last from six hours long all the way to six days long, with a team consisting of two to three riders. Each team will only have one rider racing at any given time, riding as hard as they can for a lap or two before being replaced by another team member.
One of the things that set Madison races apart from others is that the team member entering the race is catapulted into the race by the rider coming off of their turn using a specially designed handle that is kept in the back pocket of their racing shorts. Victory is gained by being the team which has traveled the largest distance.
Match Sprint - This is an event generally run like a tournament. It involves a series of races between two riders with the winners going on to the next level of competition until an overall winner is determined. Many times there is a repechage, or second chance, for riders who lose in the first round of matches.
Miss-and-Out – This is a variety of race that uses the mass start rule, in each lap of a miss-and-out race the final rider to cross the finish line is eliminated from the race. Once the field of competition is narrowed to a certain number of riders, the riders will sprint to the finish to decide the winner.
Motor Pace – In a motor pace race, every competitor rides behind a moped or a small motorcycle which provides them with a slipstream.
Neutral Support – Neutral support refers to help that is provided to a rider by anyone other than a fellow team member. An example is a follow truck which contains spare parts, tires, and a mechanic to aid riders who are experiencing mechanical issues. This is not always allowed by the rules, for example in a race using mountain bikes a rider using neutral support will be disqualified.
Noodle – Noodling is described as being riding at a slow and yet casual pace.
Olympic Sprint – An Olympic sprint race is a type of pursuit race with participants competing in teams of three. At the end of a lap, the lead cyclist of each team leaves the race until the third and final lap when the last riders from each team race to the finish line.
Pace Line – This is a group, usually riding in an echelon, who swaps the lead position so that the rest of the group can ride on the lead rider’s draft.
Peloton – The field is also known as the peloton in certain circumstances.
